When I was in college I was studying the effects of meditation on the brain, and as part of that I spent a semester interning at a Zen temple with Teijo Munnich.

I kept expecting her to suggest books to read or to give me spiritual advice, but all she taught me was how they clean the floors in Zen temples, and then made me clean the floors of her Zen Center.

Finally I said to her “Aren’t you going to give me books about how to meditate?!?” She asked “How did the Buddha become enlightened?” and I responded “By going in the forest and sitting under the Bodhi Tree.” And that was pretty much the biggest lesson I ever got in zen meditation- just sit. That’s all you have to do. Don’t make it some big complex thing. Just sit and keep breathing.

Of course there are thousands of forms of meditation out there and eventually you will find yourself drawn to some particular one, but in the meantime just experiment with sitting still for 5 or 10 minutes a day. Your ego during this time will have a reaction that is IDENTICAL to the way a dog acts when you try to give it a bath.

Family- don’t forget about zombies. Zombies are people who have placed themselves on autopilot to avoid having to deal with their life. Vampires are attracted to zombies because they are easy to enslave.

You may be a zombie! If you are constantly trying to numb reality out and keep repeating the same shitty patterns and feel like your life is an endless cycle of predictable and easily avoidable calamities then there is a very high chance that you are the shambling dead AND you probably have become enslaved by a vampire that is actively attempting to keep you on autopilot for the rest of your dull, drooling, empty zombie life.

Quite often the very act of firing up the life engines and pointing your ship towards the node of the multiverse you want to exist within will frighten off the vampire, but sometimes they stick around!!!!!
